1919 Market is Open and Renting
The property at 20th and Market Streets, known as 1919 Market Street, had been a vacant lot in the heart of Center City’s main central business district for many years. Until recently, when it was bought and developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, Center City’s largest office tenant. While Brandywine is interested in building more office space, they decided to build a new luxury apartment tower at 1919 Market Street. 1919 Market, as it’s called, has opened and is renting out their units.
1919 Market has 278 rental apartment units in a 28-story building. The units on floors 3 through 15 are known as the “City Collection”, the units on floors 16 through 25 are known as the “Tower Collection”, and the units on the 26th and 27th floors are called the “Penthouse Collection”. The apartment units have GE stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows with incredible views, and subway tile in the bathrooms. The first floor has a CVS Pharmacy and Naf Naf Grille, a fast casual eatery based in Chicago. The second floor has offices for Independence Blue Cross, which has its headquarters next door at 1901 Market. A landscaped courtyard separates the two towers. The City Collection units on the third floor are bi-level units.
The top floor has the building’s many amenities. The amenities include a fitness center, a yoga studio, a café with a 360 degree fireplace, a sports bar with a game room that includes shuffleboard; billiards; and a golf simulator, a wine storage room, an office and computer room, a private screening room, and a demonstration kitchen that can be rented for events. Outdoor amenities, on the top floor, include an infinity pool, cooking grills, a big screen TV, and a lounge with a fire pit. Rents for one-bedroom units are going for approximately $2,300 to $2,500 per month and rents for two-bedroom units are going for approximately $3,100 to $3,300. There are some studio apartments. Parking is available for $375 in an adjacent parking garage, which has a green roof and another retail space.
1919 Market adds a significant amount of upscale housing in the heart of the city’s main office and corporate district, which gives many Center City workers another housing option within walking distance of their offices. It, also, may attract more companies to the area because the executives, and their workers, have an additional housing option and it makes the central business district busier in the evening and on weekends. Already, a large Wawa has opened across the street in 1900 Market Street, another Brandywine owned building. 1919 Market joins 2040 Market Street, 2116 Chestnut Street, AQ Rittenhouse, and 1900 Arch Street as new housing options in the central business district.
