2116 Chestnut Street opens soon
The large new apartment tower 2116 Chestnut Street is about to open to its first tenants. 2116 Chestnut is a 34-storey tower that has been under construction for a couple years on the 2100 block of Chestnut Street, across the street from the Riverwest Condos. It replaced the former Hillman Center, a health and senior center for former garment workers. This new building was developed by the John Buck Company and designed by Hartshorne & Plunkard Architects. It has a parking garage and space for a new Hillman Center on the first few floors, and it will have new retail on Chestnut Street. The rest of the building is a rectangular glass tower that is visible from many angles.
2116 Chestnut has 307 luxury apartments. The tower also has a fitness center, a community room, a business center, a media room, a dog run, and an outdoor patio and lawn over the garage. The new tower is within walking distance of Rittenhouse Square Park, Rittenhouse Row shopping, many large office buildings, 30th Street Station, the Schuylkill River Park, Penn Park, the University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University. This building will, also, complement the historic buildings along 22nd Street and the Riverwest Condos, across Chestnut Street, where we have a studio condo for rent for $1,250 a month, available in June.
