Powelton Village has traditionally been a neighborhood of students, but recently a new rental apartment tower known as Vue32 has brought new housing for people who work in University City or Center City, right across the Schuylkill River. It was built by Radnor Property Group and designed by architects Erdy McHenry. Vue32 is sixteen stories and has a large day care and nursery school, which overlooks a large student-managed community garden and a block of Summer Street. Summer and Winter Streets each have a block of small rowhomes, right off of 32nd Street. Next to Vue32, along Summer Street, Radnor Property Group is building twelve large townhouses called Summer12. The first four homes are on the market now, ranging in price from $375,000 to $425,000.
These twelve homes will have three stories and large windows, with terraced alcoves. Each home will have either a private yard or a roof deck, with incredible views of the Center City and University City skylines. Each home has two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms and range in size from 1,149 to 1,302 square feet. No two homes are exactly alike. The kitchens have Thermador and Bosch appliances and Grohe fixtures. The living, dining, and bedrooms all have hardwood floors. Parking spaces can be bought in the tower’s garage for $50,000.
Powelton Village is becoming a neighborhood for more than just students. Vue32 provides apartments for nearby workers and a day care and nursery school, which the neighborhood needed. Summer12 starts a trend of modern townhouse development for the neighborhood.
